Agnès Guillaume is a Belgian artist. She lives and works between Brussels and Paris. Her artistic career went through music, theatre, and writing before arriving at, in 2010, video art. In her video work, Agnès Guillaume immerses us into a figurative world where what seems to be a realistic scene gradually reveals itself to be an inner realm of feelings, sensations and questions. She assembles people, places, and actions that she has imagined and turns them into lyrical and inspiring vignettes.
“Agnès puts in images and sounds a powerful and poetic world whose universality allows everyone to find a part of their humanity. Beyond its formal beauty, her work is symbolic, as she tries to reach the field of individual consciousness.” Laurent Le Bon (Director of the Picasso Museum, Paris)
Accompanied by a team of professional technicians, Agnès Guillaume supervises the staging of the images, their filming, the post-production and she creates the soundtrack. Often projected on multiple screens, the videos are recognizable by their very precise framing, a sense of rhythm in editing and a definitely painterly use of color. Guillaume has recently extended her practice by creating mixed medias works on paper inspired by her videos as well as works using embroidery.
